General Summary:
Must enjoy working with elementary school aged children. Paraprofessional will actively assist classroom teachers to provide reading interventions to students in small groups and/or on a one-to-one basis. Bilingual oral and written Spanish skills are preferred.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Follows and carries out the prescribed plan of instruction including instructional strategies and activities developed in coordination with the classroom teacher and/or Reading Specialist
Assists classroom teacher in maintaining the learning environment in the classroom
Assists in the selection and development of supplementary learning materials
Identifies special needs of students and seeks help as needed in a timely manner
Assists in the selection and development of supplementary learning materials as required
Utilizes effective behavior management strategies and assists in general building supervision
Maintains and submits necessary accurate records and reports, and meets all required deadlines
Relates to students, parents, and staff in a positive, professional manner
Works as a member of the building and district team
Recent experience working with primary school-aged children
Specific Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English
Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish is preferred
Must have good interpersonal communication and public relation skills
Works independently
Operates office machines
Required Qualifications:
Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent
Must meet one of the following:
Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) Paraeducator assessment
Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
