General Summary:
Must enjoy working with elementary school aged children.  Paraprofessional will actively assist classroom teachers to provide reading interventions to students in small groups and/or on a one-to-one basis.  Bilingual oral and written Spanish skills are preferred.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

• Follows and carries out the prescribed plan of instruction including instructional strategies and activities developed in coordination with the classroom teacher and/or Reading Specialist

• Assists classroom teacher in maintaining the learning environment in the classroom

• Assists in the selection and development of supplementary learning materials

• Identifies special needs of students and seeks help as needed in a timely manner

• Assists in the selection and development of supplementary learning materials as required

• Utilizes effective behavior management strategies and assists in general building supervision

• Maintains and submits necessary accurate records and reports, and meets all required deadlines

• Relates to students, parents, and staff in a positive, professional manner

• Works as a member of the building and district team

• Recent experience working with primary school-aged children

Specific Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English

• Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish is preferred

• Must have good interpersonal communication and public relation skills

• Works independently

• Operates office machines

Required Qualifications:

• Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent

• Must meet one of the following:

  • Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service (ETS) Paraeducator assessment

  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university

  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
