General Position Summary: Supervise program and coaches for all competition levels in assigned sport

YEAR-ROUND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate objectives for the coming sport season.

  • Mentor, develop and evaluate assistant coaches throughout the season.

  • Have understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations as presented in the WIAA Handbook, League

    Handbook and Athletic/Activity Handbook.

  • Assist Athletic Activity Director as needed.

  • Conduct proper procedures for out-of-season practices and procedures, according to WIAA and Athletic

    Department regulations.

  • Maintain membership in a professional organization such as the Coaches Association and/or Washington

    State Coaches Association.

  • The coach must constantly uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with the

    student athlete, officials, Athletic/Activity directors, school administrators, the WIAA, the media and the public,

    the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.

PRE-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet with Athletic Director to review procedures as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook.

  • Submit volunteer coach information to the Athletic Director 30 days prior to the season.

  • Meet with assistants to prepare for the upcoming season.

  • Review and revise program philosophy, materials, training, practice, etc.

  • Head Coach will submit an eligibility roster to the Athletic Director.

  • Verify inventory and arrange for a systemic issuance of school equipment/uniforms.

  • Meet with athletes and parents at the scheduled pre-season meeting to issue and review Student Activities

    Handbook, policies, practices, philosophy and all paperwork.

IN-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement procedures as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook.

  • Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.

  • Follow carefully the procedure for initiating purchase orders – ASB and District purchase orders working with

    the Athletic Director for all purchases.

  • Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams and Assistant Coaches in program.

  • Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with daily lesson plans that reflect instruction of

    teaching proper playing techniques.

  • Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook and Student

    Handbook.

  • See that the building regulations are understood and enforced.

  • Emphasize safety precautions, be aware of current training and injury procedures and have a current First Aid

    Card/CPR card.

  • Instruct players concerning rules and rule changes.

  • Advise athletes at pre-season meetings as to possible injuries that can be incurred by participating in your

    sport.

  • Develop a sport specific handout to be given to each athlete.

  • Always conduct self and teams in a professional manner.

  • Report a summary of all contests and provide any publicity information that will aid the program and

    Athletic/Activities it.

  • Transportation supervision ratio will include one district employee per twenty participants for all trips outside

    of approved local venues, (see WSVSD Student Self Transport Form for approved venues).

  • When a serious injury occurs which requires immediate medical attention, the coach in charge must take

    appropriate fir aid measures. If a physician, emergency medical technician (EMT) or other medical

    professional is present, his/her assistance shall be requested. Call 911 if additional emergency medical

    assistance is required. All coaches are required to have WSVSD Emergency Medical Information and

    Authorization forms for every student athlete on their team eligibility list at all games and practices.

POST-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold athlete responsible for all equipment not

    returned. Hold athlete responsible for missing or damaged equipment.

  • Arrange for the issuance of letters and special awards earned as specified in the Athletic/Activity Handbook.

  • Arrange for cleaning, sorting, and inventorying of all equipment.

  • Be concerned with the care and maintenance of the facility by making recommendations concerning additions

    and improvements.

  • Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments.

  • Submit inventory to Athletic Director with recommendations for equipment purchase and repair needs.

  • Submit evaluation of all assistants within 30 days of your sports state tournament.

  • Submit recommendations for next year’s schedule and SOP changes for your sport via the Athletic Director.
