Teacher for After School Program

Whitson Elementary School, Wallace and Priscilla Stevenson Intermediate School, and Henkle Middle School
MONDAY - FRIDAY AFTERNOONS, 14 hours/week, September through June

General Position Summary:  Teacher will provide math and reading help, homework help and fun and meaningful activities for children who participate in the After School Program during the school year.   • Teaching and/or tutoring students

  • Reading and math help for students

  • Design and carry out fun and meaningful activities related to math, literacy, STEAM and/or Project Based Learning

  • Mentor students

  • Make a safe space for students and let them know they are cared about

  • Work with students with different abilities

  • Work as a team to develop curriculum that is fun, relevant and meaningful

  • Provide clear directions that is still supportive to both students and paraprofessionals

  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and organize prep time

  • Follow district COVID-19 safety plans

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Project Based Learning

  • Interest in project based Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) units

  • Ability to speak Spanish

  • Demonstrates ability to relate positively and productively with diverse youth and adults

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a collaborative team member

  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or highly qualified teaching certificate

  • Interest in teaching project-based STEAM units

  • Ability to speak Spanish

  • Ability to relate with diverse youth and adults

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a team member

  • Classroom management and organizational skills

  • Willing to drive a school van
