General Position Summary:
Keep all of the district buildings and grounds maintained structurally, esthetically in good working order. Keep the plumbing, heating, and electrical in safe and efficient working order.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
• Repair and maintain buildings as needed
• Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled
• Perform electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work when required
• Operate tools and equipment; i.e. hand tools, table saws, and forklifts
• Repair inoperable tools and equipment
• Substitute for the custodial position
• Mow grass and plow snow when needed

Job Scope:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as manuals, operating procedures and District policies. Write routine reports/correspondence and speak effectively before groups
• Apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems and chaotic situations requiring creative planning to complete required work.
• Demonstrate the ability to show initiative in projects and tasks assigned without specific direction
• Ability to work independently
• Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Flexible working hours

Specific Job Skills
• Must have good communication and public relation skills
• Effective use of discretion and independent judgment on a daily basis
• Complete knowledge of electrical, carpentry, and mechanical skills required
• Operate office machines and personal computer
• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentage applying basic math
• Use Microsoft Office software
• Good interpersonal, communication, leadership skills are essential
• Teamwork
• Ability to read, write and understand English is required

Education and/or Experience
• High school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
• Must be proficient in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and welding work
• Must have a basic knowledge of mechanical workmanship

Job Conditions
• Required to sit, stand or talk for extended periods of time
• Movement from one location to another frequently occurs
• The position may require some overtime and evening meetings and be on-call at all times.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non- household dust
• Occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms
• Hand strength is required to grasp tools, climb ladders, and operate equipment
• Close vision and depth perception is required
• Frequently 50 pounds will be lifted or moved
• Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds
